Winter's Beauty

Did I say Winter's beauty? Yes, I did. Anyone that knows me very well knows how I feel about winter, it is not my friend, yet I continue to live in Southeast Idaho and actually like it here. Humm, curious thing. There is one amazing thing about winter though, and Idaho Falls has this phenomenon quite frequently. . . hoarfrost . I have awaken to this beautiful wonderment 3 times since Christmas. It happened last week while Mindy was here and she didn't really remember it when she was living here, maybe teenagers are just to busy with their lives to notice things like this.It is one of the very few things about winter that I enjoy because it is such a wonder of nature. The morning I went out to take these pictures (yes I ventured out of my house with my camera to take pictures on a below zero day!) my senses went into overload. The beauty of every tree branch, pine needle, log, porch railing, and even basketball net covered with millions of tiny ice crystals is unsurpassed. Everywhere I looked was a glistening white (that is how my mind imagined Edward looking in the sun before I saw the movie). I could smell the clean, crisp, winter air (we have very little pollution here in the winter). I could taste the cold as I breathed, not wanting to breath deeply knowing the cold would burn my lungs. I felt the sting of the cold on my cheeks and ears. It looked as if I were to touch the frost it would cut my finger because of its defined sharpness. It was a silent morning, no cars driving up the road or even on the main road not far from us, no dogs barking, no children's sounds from the school playgrounds. As I stood there I could actually hear the frost. Tiny crackling sounds as minute pieces broke from it's clutch and ever so softly thudded to the snow below. I had never experienced this sound before. It was amazing! This is one of God's little wonders that reminds me that He created this world for us to live in, enjoy, and bask in it's beauty. For that I am eternally grateful. For me it is a bright spot during the dreary time of winter.

Wow! This is one of my very favorite things too, I just never knew what it was called. I've tried a couple times to get pictures but it really doesn't happen over here very much and my camera isn't quite fancy enough to capture how spectacular it really is! Thanks!
